1960s Changes

It's hard to believe that just 50 years ago, women couldn't vote, work, or go to school. They were controlled by their husbands and fathers who had the right to beat them or lock them up if they disobeyed. Violence against women was so common that it was considered normal behavior in a man and led many men to think they were justified in abusing their wife. The second half of the 20th century was a time of tremendous change. Women fought long and hard for equality, breaking countless barriers that didn't make sense. But guess what? The fight is still not over. As I begin to introduce you to my new blog, there are many questions that run through my mind. My first is this: how much have women really come in terms of empowerment? I don't mean to be overly critical, but the events of 2012 brought many discussion and debate that address current issues. For example, people are talking about violence against women, which is a very important issue. First, let's look at the statistics. According to a UN report , one in every three women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence. And if you live in an urban area like I do, it's even worse changed since the 1960s. We know we have come a long way, but even today we face daily obstacles with modern technology, politics, and society in general.
