Sexual Abuse Awareness Month? Really?

Although it may be sexual abuse awareness month, shouldn’t we always be aware of such a thing? As women shouldn’t we always on the guard of such assaults and harassments regardless of the gender it may come from? Why does it take an entire month dedicated towards being aware about sexual abuse to “wake us up”? ​​

Especially in the Middle East, many of us girls who grew up to be women have had the notion of covering up and being aware or our surroundings to avoid being sexually abused has been ingrained in us. But then again, what does modesty have to do with sexual harassment and abuse? Let’s face it girls, it’s not us, it’s mostly them: men!
