Netflix takes on Gender Inequality

Gender inequality is still a major issue all around the world and Hollywood makes no exception to that. In fact, only 39 percent of speaking characters on streaming programs were female in the last year, according to a recent study by San Diego State University. But the good news then becomes that sci-fi thrillers, sitcoms, and dramedies on Netflix—from The Crown to The Politician and the Queen’s Gambit prove that the future is indeed female.

But what’s the best part of Netflix doing this is that Netflix is empowering these roles so effortlessly; one watches these shows without feeling like the roles have been forcefully shoved into our faces. In fact, these shows, and more, seem to have wonderful characters yes but you rarely find yourself questioning or counting the number of times you see women on the screen in comparison to the male roles.

So well done Netflix for showing us how we too, play important roles in Hollywood. May you always treat the impeccable actresses as such.
